Wounds in the corners of the lips, or, as they are popularly called, seizures, are an infrequent phenomenon, but those who have encountered it know how much discomfort they cause and how long they may not pass. Most often in these cases they sin on a lack of vitamins. It turned out that this is not the most common reason. What causes these cracks, said otorhinolaryngologist Maria Evdokimova.
The specialist explained that acute or chronic inflammation of the skin in the corners of the mouth, or scientifically angular cheilitis, most often occurs due to increased salivation. It causes irritation, and the latter can easily be superimposed by a secondary infection – staphylococcus bacteria or yeast-like fungi from the genus Candida.
Also, seizures can occur in those who wear dentures or undergo orthodontic treatment and do not brush their teeth well. And inflammation can also be associated with dry mouth and a reaction to hygiene products – the same toothpaste.
And only in rare cases, the reason may lie in the deficiency of vitamins. Although this happens with a lack of zinc, folic acid and vitamins B2, B3, B6.
In any case, it is worth starting with enhanced hygiene. Do not forget that dentists recommend brushing your teeth twice a day for 2-3 minutes and flossing. It also does not hurt to apply barrier creams to the corners of the mouth – ordinary Vaseline will do.
Another common problem in this area is chapped lips. About how to be saved, “Secret” told here.
