Many have heard of trans fats, but few know exactly what they are and why they are dangerous. The Telegram channel DocDeti & DocMed told what kind of animal it is, what it is eaten with and why it should not be eaten. Basically, trans fats are used in fast food, baked goods, various snacks like chips, and also in sauces. Due to their molecular structure, they have a bad effect on the body’s metabolism.
Trans fats are mostly found in margarine or prepared foods. Hydrogenated oils and margarines can be used multiple times when frying.
“By the end of the 20th century, numerous studies had accumulated extensive evidence on the negative effects of trans fats on metabolism, as well as on the relationship between trans fat consumption and coronary heart disease,” the authors of the channel said.
The World Health Organization guidelines state that trans fats should not exceed 1% of the human diet.
“Russian manufacturers are still not required to indicate the amount of trans fats in their products. Often words "trans fats", "hydrogenated fats" disguise under phrases "cooking oil", "confectionery fat" and other veiled concepts,” the channel said in a statement.
