Halal standards to be developed in Russia

“The tasks of the center will include the development of the necessary list of Russian national halal standards, taking into account the factor of harmonization with international standards, reducing the costs of manufacturers for certification by recognizing national certificates in other countries of the world,” the organization said.

As explained in Roskachestvo, the center will be engaged in standardization, certification of products, monitoring of their quality, as well as promotion of certified Russian halal products on the domestic market and abroad.

According to Roskachestvo, the annual turnover of the global halal industry has exceeded $2 trillion. The growth rate of this sector is at least 5% per year. In addition, the factor of the increase in the Muslim population in the world contributes to the fact that by 2025 the share of halal products will be at least 20% of all products produced in the world.

“Over the past 3 years, Russia has managed to double the export of products that meet the Halal standard. In 2021, Russia supplied halal products worth a record $180 million to the Persian Gulf countries alone. The largest importers were Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. At the same time, Russia does not plan to stop only at the countries of the Middle East. By 2024, the export of Russian halal to the Arab countries should reach $400 million, and by 2030 – $700 million. The activities of the new national competence center will certainly form the confidence of domestic and international consumers in halal products, ”the words of the head of Roskachestvo are quoted in the message. According to the Rosselkhoznadzor, the export of halal products from Russia to world markets in 2022 increased by another 50% compared to 2021. The main commodity group in terms of halal products is poultry and offal, as well as halal beef, lamb and horse meat.
