Ivan Tregub, a farmer from the Kushchevsky district, addressed a question to Veniamin Kondratiev.
– I want to be engaged in seed production and now I am ready to grow more than 10 parent wedges of sunflower and corn of the Kuban selection. But we need a large area of arable land. I submitted an application to the Department of Property Relations for the provision of 115 hectares of fertile land, which is currently not being cultivated by anyone. But it turned out that the cultivation of sunflower seeds and corn was removed from the list of import-substituting products,” said Ivan Tregub.
Veniamin Kondratiev emphasized that in the context of the development of import substitution, the region needs seeds of domestic selection, zoned.
– We are experiencing a shortage in the Kuban seeds of some crops. Last year, a record 15.7 million tons of grains and legumes were harvested. But that was yesterday, and I care about what will happen today and tomorrow. We must remain the guarantor of the country’s food security. Those who want to engage in seed production should be supported. They are the stability of the Kuban agro-industrial complex. We are ready to give land, but in return we are waiting for the result – those seeds that will be in demand among our farmers, – said Veniamin Kondratyev.
Vice Governor Andrey Korobka said that due to the fact that there is little free agricultural land in the Kuban, such areas as corn and sunflower seed production have been removed from the list of priority areas for its provision. Selection and seed production of these crops in the Krasnodar Territory has been established. Priority was given to sugar beet seeds.
Veniamin Kondratiev instructed to look into the issue in detail.
