NLMK Group, an international steel company, has deployed a 5G wireless communication network at the site of the Novolipetsk Iron and Steel Works. The network allows you to increase the speed and efficiency of existing digital solutions, in the future it will provide direct interaction between pieces of equipment and increase the level of autonomy in managing production processes.
The new network is capable of supporting up to one million connections per 1 km2 and processing data at speeds up to 1 GB per second, which is more than 100 times faster than the capabilities of a 4G network. Reliability and high signal speed allow you to instantly collect and analyze data, which means correcting the operation of equipment in real time and automatically.
The 5G network is deployed in combination with EDGE computing technology – data is processed and stored not on a remote server, but in close proximity to the source – a sensor or other digital device installed on the equipment. This ensures greater speed and autonomy of digital services.
The fifth generation network at NLMK works in conjunction with the company’s own digital platform – a software package that sorts an array of equipment operation data and makes them up to …
