Sometimes it’s not so easy to understand that you have been in the cold for too long and it’s time to go into the warmth. Especially during the traditional bathing in the hole for Epiphany (it will be on January 19). Resuscitator, medical expert of “Invitro” Sergey Simbirtsev told how to determine the symptoms of hypothermia. After all, this is extremely necessary for our frosty lands.
Simbirtsev recalled that hypothermia can end very badly: a heart attack, failure of the respiratory system, and eventually death.
The first reaction to cold is shivering. Thus, the body tries to warm up. Other symptoms: slurred speech, slow breathing, weak pulse, lack of coordination, bright red skin.
With moderate hypothermia, you can simply cover a person with a blanket or other insulation, the doctor told Gazeta.Ru. If possible, the room should also be hot, about 28 degrees.
For active warming, you can also use blankets, heating pads, a warm bath, or blowing warm air on the victim’s skin. All this is used in severe cases of hypothermia, if the body temperature has fallen below 32 degrees.
The doctor advised to wear a warm hat and clothes during frosts, avoid overexertion and stay as dry as possible.
Earlier, the veterinarian explained how to walk dogs in cold weather.
