Previously it was believed that these animals do not cope well with the heat.
Echidnas have learned to cope with the heat using their stomachs and snot, scientists have found. The results of their study are published in the journal Biology Letters.

Bursting bubbles of echidna snot cool the blood at the tip of an elongated beak-nose. With their belly, these mammals plop down on cool surfaces.

For a long time it was believed that echidnas were not able to cope with the Australian heat. They don’t behave like other animals to avoid overheating. These animals do not have the necessary glands for sweating, and it is difficult to breathe, like dogs, for example, or they cannot lick their lips.
Snot bubbles, scientists believed, echidnas are allowed in the first place in order to clear the nasal passages of dirt and dust.
