The European Union has issued the first permits for the supply of domestic cricket (Acheta domesticus) and mealy beetle (Alphitobius diaperinus) larvae to the domestic market, the press service of the National Union of Agricultural Insurers (NAI) reported. Two companies from Vietnam and France received permission to supply insect products. Vietnamese company Cricket One Co. Ltd. received permission to supply cricket products from January 24, 2023, the French Ynsect NL BV – to supply products from beetle larvae from January 26. Permits were issued for a period of 5 years. The report notes that insect flour can be used for the preparation of flour products, meat products, sauces, pizza, chips and other food products. Insect food has been allowed to be sold in the European Union since 2018. Then the concept of “innovative food” was fixed in the legislation of the union.
