A Japanese semi-precious stone company is selling a 450,000 yen office chair made from a giant L-shaped piece of amethyst.

Saitama-based Factory-M, a store specializing in semi-precious natural stones, has gained a lot of attention after posting photos of their latest offering on social media.
A Japanese company has shared three photos of what many have mistaken for a photoshop meme or some kind of torture device. She should have explained that this is indeed a real product. Looking at the photos, it’s easy to see why so many people have decided that this is some kind of meme and not a real office chair. However, factory-M insists that you can actually sit on it if you can afford to buy it.

Factory-M founder and owner Koichi Hasegawa told reporters that he came up with the idea for the unusual office chair while on a trip to the US looking for natural stones to bring home to Japan. When he saw this large L-shaped piece of amethyst, he immediately imagined how a chair was made from it, and decided to bring this idea to life.
The amethyst had sharp fragments sanded down to make it safe to sit on, but it still doesn’t look very comfortable despite Hasegawa’s claims to the contrary. The chair is made of amethysts mounted on a reinforced metal frame, and factory-M says it can easily support a sumo wrestler if needed.

As you can imagine, this unique office chair is not the lightest ever made. A single piece of semi-precious stone weighs as much as 88 kilograms, and with the included metal frame, the weight of the chair reaches 99 kilograms. It’s good that you will be able to roll it.
Factory-M charges 450,000 yen for its unique, uncomfortable office chair. Koichi Hasegawa claims that dozens of individuals and companies have expressed interest in acquiring it.
