The commissioning of the transport bypass of the villages of Manga and Novaya Manga on the A-121 highway in the Pryazha district is scheduled for November this year.
The total length of the new section, the construction of which began in 2020, is more than 20 km. It passes, among other things, along the existing road, but most of it was built from scratch. Here, the right-of-way was cleared and the subgrade was constructed, culverts were laid, slopes were reinforced with gabion structures. An arched bridge of corrugated metal structure was erected across the Lamata River.
The project also provides for the construction of a transport interchange with an overpass at the junction of the Sortavala highway to the R-21 Kola highway. Near the ancient Karelian village of Manga, sidewalks, an outdoor lighting system and a metal railing were installed. Local treatment facilities are being installed near reservoirs and water protection belts.
Earlier, bypasses of the village of Kroshnozero, the villages of Shchekkila and Kutchezero were built as part of the Sortavala highway. The construction of a new section contributes to solving the problem of straightening the road and increasing the level of road safety by transferring the main traffic flow beyond the boundaries of settlements.
*** Highway A-121 “Sortavala” provides communication between the settlements of the Ladoga region, connecting the Leningrad region and Karelia and at the same time closing the transport ring around the largest freshwater reservoir in Europe – Lake Ladoga. It also includes an entrance to the Vartsila checkpoint on the Russian-Finnish border.
