The Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation expects that the state of winter crops will not worsen, now 94% of the crops are in a satisfactory condition, a year ago for the same period there were 97% of them, Secretary of State – Deputy Minister of Agriculture Maxim Uvaydov said at a meeting of the Committee on Agrarian Issues of the State Duma, writes 1prime. ru.
Sharp temperature drops have become a characteristic feature of the winter of 2022-2023 in the Russian Federation, this situation is unfavorable for winter crops and fruit crops, while the worst conditions for their overwintering have developed in the southern regions, RIA Novosti recently reported Associate Professor of the Department of Meteorology and Climatology of the RGAU-MSHA named after K. AND. Timiryazeva Elena Dronova. According to her, the nature and extent of the damage will be clear at the end of January, after the first agrometeorological survey.
Uvaydov noted that now ice crust and lack of snow are observed in a number of territories, but “in general, the situation is not critical, according to the level of somewhere in 2019.” If there is no deterioration in weather conditions and climatic phenomena, he added, “then, in principle, there should be a favorable situation with winter crops, for us, you know, this is important.”
Winter sowing in Russia previously amounted to 17.7 million hectares and fell short of expectations due to weather problems in Central Russia and the Volga region, such data were announced in early December by the Ministry of Agriculture. According to the plans, the sowing structure will be preserved, and the remaining areas will be sown in the spring.
