Over the past 10 years, the number of homeless people in Russia has decreased by six times. This is evidenced by the results of the All-Russian population census, Vedomosti writes.
According to 2021 data, 11,285 homeless people live in Russia. In 2010, this figure was 64,077 people. Most of the homeless (10,696 people) are in cities. Only 589 people live in rural areas. Most of these citizens live in Moscow (6637 people), Omsk (441) and Irkutsk (367) regions.

Comment “Nochlezhka”:
Tatyana Bazhenova, head of PR projects at the Nochlezhka charitable organization, told Snob that the count of homeless people according to the methodology of the All-Russian population census does not reflect their real number. It is difficult for census takers to reach most people who do not have a permanent place of residence: some are difficult to find in non-residential and abandoned buildings or on the street.
According to Nochlezhka, between 1 and 4 million homeless people live in Russia – it is impossible to know their exact number, Bazhenova noted. According to Validata’s research for Nochlezhka, there are 2.13 million homeless people in Russia. Only in Moscow there are 238 thousand homeless people, and in St. Petersburg their number is 64 thousand people.
