Growth prospects
Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Resources of the region Ilya Khramov and Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Agro-Industrial Complex and Rural Development of the Legislative Assembly of the NO Alexander Efremtsev spoke about the situation in the Nizhny Novgorod Region.
In recent years, the number of dairy herds in the region has decreased, which is generally typical for many regions and has become an all-Russian trend. However, at the same time, there is a significant increase in the milk productivity of cattle. In terms of gross production, Nizhny Novgorod residents are in sixth place in the Volga Federal District. Assessing their own resources, in the near future they see prospects for reaching 3rd-4th place. As Ilya Khramov noted, in the Nizhny Novgorod region there is a need to increase the production of marketable milk. Therefore, support for dairy farming is one of the priorities of the region’s leadership. Last year, 1 billion 569 rubles were allocated from the budgets of all levels to the dairy industry.
The region is still far from the level of self-sufficiency in milk and dairy products. The plans are to reach the 92% mark by 2026. The dairy processing industry is actively developing in the region. The amount of investment in the organization and construction of dairy plants is about seven billion rubles.
“The raw materials and processing base should work and develop in unison,” the Deputy Minister concluded. “Considering that our processing enterprises are undergoing a major modernization, which allows us to guarantee a sales market in the near future, we are counting on both active construction and an increase in milk production. It is possible to do this not only by investing heavily in construction and modernization, by providing subsidies and loans. The same purpose is served by collegial discussions of issues important for specialists in the livestock sector. We need to analyze positive experience, acquiring new knowledge and skillfully applying it in our work. And just for this, the Milk Institute holds specialized events that become large-scale communication platforms that bring together hundreds of those professionals who want to learn and improve their competence, and those who are ready and able to teach, explaining all the subtleties and aspects of the functioning of agro-industrial complex using concrete examples. .
The Deputy Minister spoke about investment projects in the industry and regional programs to support dairy farming.
About prices
What will be the prices for milk, feed and other components of dairy farming? This question worries all market participants. Ekaterina Zakharova, Leading Analyst of the Dairy Market Research Center, made a report on the prospects and development of the dairy industry.
Briefly, the expert dwelled on the situation in the world. The growth rate of milk production in 2022 declined, as did milk consumption per capita, which in previous years grew at the expense of the Middle East, Africa and South America. The decline in the latter figure is partly attributed to lower incomes due to inflation and economic problems in some countries. However, this does not indicate a permanent trend. On the contrary, an increase in the world’s population actually guarantees an increase in milk consumption and will be a key factor in the development of the dairy market. The FAO Dairy Price Index showed a 20 percent increase.
Raw milk production, excluding India and Pakistan, which previously showed steady growth, has declined in 2022, according to the International Farm Analysis Network. This trend, analysts believe, will continue in the 1-2 quarters of this year, after which the production of raw milk may begin to grow. The price of milk on the world market reached its peak in the first six months of the 22nd. The peak value was more than 60 dollars per centner.
“It is expected that growth in milk production will be restored next year,” said Ekaterina Zakharova. – Nevertheless, milk prices will remain high, at the level of $45-50 per 100 kilograms, especially if imports from China increase, which, for well-known reasons, has sharply reduced the supply of dairy products to the country.
In Russia, in 2022, the increase in raw milk production from agricultural organizations and private household plots increased by only two percent. Prior to this, the average annual growth since 2014 was 3.8 percent. The slowdown is associated with objective reasons, including drought. Last year, growth was restored due to agricultural organizations. The indicator in household plots and peasant farms remained at the level of 2021, although earlier growth in this segment in peasant farms was more dynamic than in agricultural enterprises. The number of dairy cattle in Russia also remained at the same level. A slight decrease – in agricultural organizations, leveled due to the increase in the dairy herd in K (F) Kh.
The leader in the Russian Federation is still Tatarstan, which continued the growth of milk production at the same level. In second place is the Krasnodar Territory, which showed good rates after the drought and problems with feed in 20/21. Milk production in the Kuban increased by 6% in 2022.
In the top three regions that have reduced the number of cattle, Bashkortostan, Altai Territory, Voronezh Region. The leader in the growth of beef cattle is the Bryansk region, in dairy cattle – the Kaluga and Tula regions, as well as the Krasnodar Territory. The anti-leader in terms of meat stock is the Republic of Kalmykia, in terms of dairy livestock – the Penza region.
Stable high prices for raw milk have developed on the domestic market, as …
