The advent of the Internet has simplified the attitude to the diction of people from the screen. Bloggers, TV presenters and actors with imperfect speech no longer bother anyone, and for some it has even become a calling card. So the parents began to think: is it necessary to load the child with classes in order to remove the “fiction effects”, or is this no longer a flaw? Defectologist-speech therapist Anastasia Novikova dotted the “i” in this matter.
The number of children with speech disorders is growing. There are several reasons for this. Children learn to speak by imitating others, and many modern cartoon characters do not speak perfectly. And adults often simplify their speech. In addition, children express themselves with gestures, parents understand them, and then the kids simply lose the motivation to speak.
Not with all violations in the pronunciation of sounds, you should immediately run to a speech therapist. For example, if a child at the age of 4.5 says “l” instead of “p”, this is still an age norm and there is a possibility that the child will outgrow it, the speech therapist noted.
However, it should be borne in mind that difficulties with pronouncing “r”, if they are not solved in childhood, are much more difficult to remove in adults. You can’t just do exercises for the development of speech – you may have to go to the orthodontist to cut the frenulum under the tongue, which interferes with the correct pronunciation of the sound.
But if a four-year-old baby burrs, then the distorted sound will not only not go away, but will only be fixed with age, the expert warned.
Of course, speech disorders are something you can live with; they do not affect the work of the brain in any way. However, this does not always go completely without a trace. Speech defects in the future can create difficulties for the child in learning material at school (for example, with spelling), affect his relationships with peers and self-esteem, the speech therapist warned.
If the problem is not addressed in childhood, speech disorders will persist into adulthood. Not everyone has the confidence and charisma to make them their thing, many become insecure, afraid to speak in public, and, as a result, it is more difficult for them to realize themselves in the professional field, Novikova told Doctor Peter.
A beautifully delivered speech is a significant advantage, it will always help to charm the interlocutor. This will come in handy both at work and in your personal life. How to tighten up your speech and speak more expressively, said the President of the Guild of Speech Therapists and Defectologists Yulia Pokrovskaya.
