The other day, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Dagestan discussed issues in the field of livestock breeding. The event was hosted by the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Dagestan Emin Shaikhgasanov. Employees of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Dagestan and heads of Dagestan organizations engaged in livestock breeding took part in the discussion.
During the event, the organization of the 23rd Russian exhibition of breeding sheep and goats was highlighted. The exhibition will traditionally be held in May, for the first time it will be organized on the territory of the Republic of Dagestan. Delegations from more than twenty regions of Russia are expected to attend. The need for careful study of all organizational aspects was noted in order to hold the event at a decent level. The achievements of Dagestan in sheep breeding will be represented by breeding organizations in which the Dagestan mountain, Tushino, Andi, Lezgin, Edilbaev breeds of sheep, as well as the Artlukh merino breed are bred. Additionally, it is planned to identify sites for other farm animals bred in the country. The cultural program of the exhibition will also be widely presented.
The second issue on the agenda of the meeting concerned the activities of state subsidies for livestock breeding in 2023. Subsidies are provided for reimbursement of part of the costs of breeding breeding stock of farm animals, as well as for reimbursement of part of the costs for the purchase of young breeding stock of farm animals in breeding organizations registered in the state breeding register. It was noted that 77 Dagestan organizations for livestock breeding are registered in the state breeding register, including 2 breeding plants, 56 breeding reproducers and 16 gene pool farms.
They also discussed the issues of organized grading of sheep in 2023. Determination of productive and breeding qualities by evaluating animals according to a set of characteristics makes it possible to draw up an effective plan for selection and breeding work. Therefore, appraisal is an important matter for breeding farms; based on its results, an animal is selected for a reproductive or commodity group. The heads of breeding farms were reminded of the need to draw up summary reports on appraisal and submit them to the Russian Ministry of Agriculture in a timely manner.
