The reclamation of the Magnitogorsk landfill is planned as part of the Clean Air federal program of the Ecology national project. According to the Comprehensive Action Plan approved by Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Victoria Abramchenko, by the end of 2024, Magnitogorsk is scheduled to reduce the total volume of emissions into the atmospheric air by 25.23% from the level of 2017. The comprehensive plan includes three main activities, including the reduction of emissions from the Magnitogorsk landfill through the reclamation of its territory. The design and estimate documentation has already received a positive conclusion from the Glavgosexpertiza.
The Magnitogorsk landfill for municipal solid waste is one of the largest in the Chelyabinsk region. It existed on the left bank of the Ural River from 1957 to 2022. The site is located in the Ordzhonikidzevsky district at the foot of the eastern slope of Mount Magnitnaya. Engineering and technical support networks run along the site boundary, including power supply lines and gas pipelines.
“The landfill is actually located within the city, so its reclamation is especially significant. Design solutions provide for changing the relief of the garbage body to give it a more regular geometric shape, with uniform slopes. After completion of the work, the object will be an artificial hill with terraced slopes, as close as possible to the natural landscape,” – said Tatyana Malashina, chief expert of the project of the GEP Service on cultural heritage sites and engineering and technical infrastructure of the Glavgosexpertiza of Russia.
The project documentation also provides for the construction of leachate treatment facilities, biogas neutralization plants, observation wells, a reagent storage warehouse, a transformer substation and other buildings and structures.
The developer is the Municipal State Institution “Department of Capital Construction”.
The general designer is GEOTECHPROEKT LLC.
