A huge four-story building after a modern renovation, on the territory there are green lawns and rose gardens, on the line of readiness there is a brand new harvesting and special, specifically for breeding work, equipment and trailed implements. This is how the experimental station met agronomists and farmers at the first agricultural council in 2023 in the village of Leningradskaya.
And the newly refurbished auditorium looked amazing. Almost a hundred participants attended the meeting: specialists, heads of farms and departments, departments of agriculture, farmers, not only from the northern zone of the Krasnodar Territory, but also from the Rostov Region.
First, for all the farmers there was a tour of the museum of the experimental station, which opened a little less than three months ago. Alina Belyakova, head of the wheat department, said that photos of honored workers of the experimental station, photo collages from the life of the enterprise, miniature sheaves of different varieties of wheat and barley take pride of place on the wall.
A great contribution to the development of the experimental station and the results of breeding was made by such breeders as Candidate of Agricultural Sciences Nina Panteleevna Fomenko (headed the Wheat Breeding Department for 36 years), Candidate of Agricultural Sciences, Head of the Laboratory of Winter Barley Praskovya Kondratyevna Polukhina.
Museum exhibits include books of author’s certificates, herbariums, old equipment from the time the experimental station was founded, flasks, test tubes, moisture meters, and even exclusive books in the form of rolls of film about the scientific developments of breeders.
After listening to the guide and having studied the exhibits, agronomists and farmers went to the assembly hall.
The beginning of early spring feeding and much more was discussed at the first agricultural study in 2023 in the Leningrad region. And the interest was huge, as more than 100 agronomists and farmers were present in the hall.
The first to report was the director of the North Kuban Agricultural Experimental Station, a branch of the National Grain Center named after P. P. Lukyanenko, Candidate of Agricultural Sciences Viktor Gukalov. He noticed that almost 90 millimeters of rain had already fallen in Leningradskaya in February – this is one and a half norm. So, we need to work with this in mind. Viktor Vladimirovich also analyzed the results obtained in the demonstration experiment. The new varieties, which have been released since 2022 and are undergoing state testing, showed the following yields: School – 109.2 c/ha, Bumba – 08.7 c/ha, Mone – 106.8 c/ha and Pobeda 75- 104.3 q/ha. A number of other varieties of Krasnodar selection also showed high yields. For example, from one hectare of winter triticale varieties Goldvarg yielded 112.1 centners.
Victor Gukalov also stopped at the good winter hardiness of winter barley of the Krasnodar selection. After the January frosts, the scientists selected the plants for regrowth, and all the winter barley remained alive. Last year, for example, in a demonstration experiment, a whole scattering of varieties gave a yield of more than 100 centners per hectare: Mir, Saturn, Successor, Joseph and others.
Further, the deputy director of the National Grain Center named after V.I. P. P. Lukyanenko, Candidate of Agricultural Sciences Vagif Kerimov. In his speech, he emphasized the role of Krasnodar varieties of winter wheat for Russia. Thus, the area occupied by varieties is almost 8.5 million hectares, and among the ten most popular varieties in Russia, there are seven Krasnodar varieties at once: Tanya, Grom, Alekseich, Yuka, Elanchik, Bezostaya 100 and Timiryazevka 150.
Then the leading researcher, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences Alexander Borovik spoke about early spring top dressing. He drew attention to fractional top dressing and gave an example of a new variety Pobeda 75, on which, in the last year’s experiment, the yield increase with fractional top dressing amounted to almost forty centners!
Researcher, candidate of agricultural sciences Dmitry Ponomarenko spoke about new varieties of spring wheat. He noted the importance of this direction and high potential.
In the next report, Irina Grigorenko, Head of the Department for the Rational and Environmentally Safe Use of Chemicalization Means of the FGBU SAS Severo-Kubanskaya, Ph.D. sciences, spoke about the reserves of moisture and the feeding of winter crops. According to her, top dressing should be carried out fractionally: the first – according to soil diagnostics, the second – according to the leaf.
At the end of the meeting, the following farms were awarded with thanks and gift certificates for their active participation in the introduction and propagation of new varieties of winter wheat into production: LLC “Competition” and LLC “Yug-Agrotekhnika” of the Leningrad region, LLC “Druzhba” of the Kanevsky region, LLC “21st century” Bryukhovetsky district, SPK “Primorskoye” of the Shcherbinovsky district.
Summing up, the scientists recommended to immediately start feeding winter crops on frozen soil.
Vyacheslav Varlamov, director of Yug-Agrotekhnika LLC: “We have been cooperating with the experimental station for almost thirty years. It is gratifying to see how this scientific institution has been developing over the past 3-5 years, the quality of seed material has been growing, it is always interesting to try new varieties of winter wheat on our farm. We are always happy to come to agricultural studies, because scientists can always learn new results of experiments and research in order to apply them in their crops.”
