Pain and itching at the site of a mole (nevus) leads to disturbing thoughts. What if it’s a skin disease or, even better, cancer? Oncologist Gleb Khrykov explained that it could be just an injury or a cancerous tumor – it all depends on the nature of the pain itself. But in general, the likelihood of a mole turning into a malignant formation is extremely low, especially in young people.
Moles are usually found in people with fair skin. These are just benign formations, there is no danger in them. A mole can hurt for three reasons: * trauma; * the appearance of a pimple in the area of \u200b\u200bthe mole; * the appearance of a malignant tumor – melanoma.
Most often, a mole hurts due to an injury. For example, it can be rubbed against clothes, or a person combs it heavily. If this is a pimple, then it will pass by itself, Khrykov noted in an interview with Doctor Peter. And here with melanoma, pain appears gradually, with increasing. And she doesn’t last long.
But what if the mole suddenly began to itch? According to the doctor, the most common cause is dry skin. You just need to apply moisturizer. Another itching may appear due to the ingress of washing powder, rinse aid, shower gel and other means onto the mole. In the case of melanoma, the mole can also itch.. Khrykov stressed that this is a rare symptom.
Many moles – is it dangerous?
Khrykov reassured people with a large number of moles. This in itself is not considered dangerous. But still, if there are more than 50 nevi, then the likelihood of getting cancer increases. It’s just that such people need to be more attentive to their moles and skin in general.
