Last summer, a research team discovered broken parts of a 2,400-year-old toilet as well as a bent drain pipe among the ruins of an ancient palace at the Yueyang archaeological site in the central city of Xi’an, according to Chinese state media.
Details of the find were released last week, sparking widespread interest in China and providing a rare glimpse into the world of the country’s ancient ruling elite more than two millennia ago.
The toilet, described by researchers as a “luxury item”, was believed to be inside the palace with a pipe leading to an open pit, according to the state-run China Daily newspaper.
