The creation of the international Arctic station “Snezhinka” is supposed to be in the format of a scientific and educational platform for international cooperation, including research and development in the field of clean energy and environmentally friendly life support technologies, as well as medicine, biotechnology, telecommunications, artificial intelligence and other promising areas. The project received a positive conclusion from the Glavgosexpertiza of Russia.
The Snezhinka station site is located in the Priuralsky district of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, 70 km northwest of Salekhard. The concept of the project involves the creation of a year-round and completely autonomous complex based on renewable energy sources and hydrogen energy. The capacity of the projected wind turbines is 1050 kW, the capacity of the solar power plant is 300 kW.
“The construction of the Snezhinka International Arctic Station will take place in two stages. At the first stage, the number of employees will be 20 people, after the commissioning of the second stage, their number will increase to 86 people,” – said the chief expert of the project Pavel Samoilov.
The projected complex of buildings includes 7 buildings intended for temporary residence and laboratory studies of university students undergoing industrial practice, as well as for seconded employees from other organizations and station employees. A total of 40 jobs will be placed in 24 laboratory rooms.
“For the autonomous functioning and life support of the Snezhinka station, the first stage provides for the construction of the main amenity and medical facilities,” – said Pavel Samoilov.
It is also planned to place wind turbines, an electrolysis station for hydrogen production, rooms for electrochemical generators, an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) platform, as well as water supply and sanitation systems, workshops and other necessary buildings, structures and communications on the territory of the complex.
