Exhibition “First Position. Russian ballet”
Where: St. Petersburg, Central Exhibition Hall “Manege”

Until May 21, the Manege is hosting an exhibition dedicated to the history of the development of ballet in Russia. Part of the exposition consists of objects directly related to this story, and part of those associated with it. So, visitors can see Matilda Kshesinskaya’s pointe shoes and personal belongings of Pyotr Tchaikovsky and, for example, paintings by Mikhail Vrubel and Zinaida Serebryakova. ““Surprise me” — the legendary requirement for artists from Sergei Pavlovich Diaghilev became the fundamental principle when working on the concept of the exhibition “First Position. Russian ballet”. When choosing works, we sought not only to reflect the facts, but also to convey the expression, expressiveness of ballet images: lightness of movement, weightlessness, flight – Pushkin’s lines dedicated to Avdotya Istomina served as inspiration: “It flies like fluff from the lips of Eol …”, ”says the creative project curator Pavel Kaplevich.

Concert “Geometry of Sound”
Where: Moscow, GES-2
At what time: 20:00

The Moscow Ensemble of Contemporary Music (MASM), founded in 1990 by composer Yuri Kasparov and the leader of the Russian avant-garde Edison Denisov, will perform two works at the Moscow GES-2: “Trilogy for Ensemble: I. Space” by Sergei Nevsky and L-ISA SYMPHONY by Oleg Gudachev . “In “Space” two main characters stand out: the electric guitar – its extended solos were the result of many meetings with the wonderful guitarist Alexei Potapov and joint improvisations with the second hero of the concert, Oleg Gudachev – and the drum set. Her patterns are always slightly different in tempo and character from the music of the rest of the ensemble, reminiscent of Angelo Badalamenti’s soundtrack for the TV series Twin Peaks by David Lynch,” says Sergey Nevsky.
