The Swedish company Mo’cycle recently announced the world’s first jeans with airbags, which protect the lower body of a motorcyclist from impact in the event of an accident.

Inflatable accessories that protect motorcyclists in the event of an accident are nothing new. We’ve seen helmets with inflatable add-ons that act as cushions and backpack-like straps designed to protect the wearer’s back from impacts, but now a Swedish startup has created the world’s first airbag jeans. Made from a special Armalith fabric that looks and feels like real denim, but is actually water-repellent and hard-wearing.
Inflatable jeans are equipped with built-in airbags that serve to protect the rider’s lower body during motorcycle accidents.
“This revolutionary solution uses airbag technology to protect the first bone of the spine because spinal injuries paralyze motorcyclists,” says Mo’cycle’s.
“In addition to the coccyx, his special jeans provide protection for the hips and back of the torso. Like regular motorcycle pants, they are also equipped with protective knee pads.”
An important characteristic of motorcycle airbag jeans is that they are reusable. Even if the airbags deploy, they can be deflated and then connected to a compressed air tank.
The airbag trigger must be attached to the motorcycle so that when the rider falls, the trigger will detach from the jeans and the airbags will instantly activate.
If you’re worried that you might forget to disconnect the trigger from the motorcycle and accidentally activate the airbags, don’t. The development company claims that a force of at least 40 kg is required to trigger the trigger, which means that almost the only way to activate the airbags is to fall off the motorcycle. No need to worry about friends jokingly pulling the trigger…
The world’s first airbag jeans will go on sale sometime this month with a listed starting price of $499.
