The Russian Jewish Congress (RJC) called on the Spelling Commission of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the V. V. Vinogradov Russian Language Institute to fix the spelling of the word “Holocaust” with a capital letter. This was reported on the website of the organization.
According to representatives of the RJC, many media write “Holocaust” with a lowercase letter, following the rules recorded in dictionaries. In addition, some sources allow the use of “Holocaust” as a synonym for “genocide”, which is erroneous.
