National Research Center for Cardiovascular Surgery named after A.N. Bakulev in 2001 for the first time in Moscow opened a department of positron emission tomography. Today, a wide range of radiopharmaceuticals based on radionuclides are synthesized in the PET Center, which allow various diagnostic studies to be carried out. The construction of a new complex with a cyclotron will increase the center’s capacity for receiving patients and introducing modern medical and diagnostic technologies into practice. The project received a positive conclusion from the Glavgosexpertiza of Russia.
The radionuclide support unit with a cyclotron is being created as part of the existing nuclear diagnostics department at the N.N. A.N. Bakulev” of the Ministry of Health of Russia. It will be located in the northeastern part of the territory of the cardiology center at 135 Rublevsky Highway.
“The capacity of the new nuclear medicine unit at the Bakulev Center for Cardiovascular Surgery will ensure the flow of patients on one PET-CT scanner up to 15 people per shift. The calculated energy of the cyclotron beam is 18 MeV”, – said Dmitry Pridatchenko, chief expert of the project of the GEP Service on civil facilities of the Glavgosexpertiza of Russia. The tasks of the block also include the production of radiopharmaceuticals for modern methods of diagnosis and early detection of oncological diseases of various localization, the expert specified.
The building being designed includes the premises of the cyclotron complex (bunker), the laboratory for the synthesis of radiopharmaceuticals, as well as laboratory facilities for preparation for synthesis and quality control of drugs. Ancillary facilities equipped with modern high-tech equipment for PET/CT diagnostics will also be located here.
Taking into account radiation safety measures, the unit building is divided into controlled and uncontrolled zones. In addition, the laboratory for the synthesis of radiopharmaceuticals will be equipped with a system for monitoring the radiation situation in the room.
