Veterinary information system “VetIS” was developed for state supervision of the circulation of livestock products in the country after the adoption of amendments to the law on veterinary medicine.
According to the adopted amendments, from March 1, 2024, marking of farm animals will begin in Russia. The readiness of the system to work was discussed at a round table in the State Duma Committee on Agrarian Issues on March 13, reports Parlamentskaya Gazeta.
According to Svetlana Alekseeva, Deputy Head of the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance, at the moment more than a million users have registered with VetIS: these are manufacturers, carriers, sellers of meat products.
“The system will allow tracking the entire life cycle of animals: from birth to slaughter,” the expert noted. “This will provide additional consumer safety.”
Now the Russian veterinary information system is integrated with similar databases of 18 other countries, including Belarus and Kazakhstan, the expert noted. Thus, the quality of not only Russian agricultural products, but also those imported from abroad will be monitored.
The owners will have to mark the animals at their own expense. They can do it on their own or with the help of others. Owners will be able to choose the type of labeling listed in the veterinary regulations. For example, marking with a plastic tag can cost 14-20 rubles per animal, with a subcutaneous chip – 90-140 rubles, and with the help of tattooing or branding – 200-250 rubles.
