Karaulov himself decided to stay in Dubai for the time being. In the meantime, searches were carried out in Moscow – at many addresses associated with the journalist.
Mikhalkov was recognized as a victim in the libel case. Initially, the case was initiated in Nizhny Novgorod, but was soon withdrawn from the proceedings of Nizhny Novgorod law enforcement officers and transferred to Moscow.
In 2022, Karaulov said that Mikhalkov allegedly could cut down “valuable Russian forests” in the Nizhny Novgorod region for his furniture factory, journalists wrote.
Karaulov appears in another libel case – however, as a witness. The initiator of this case was the head of Rostec Sergey Chemezov. After Chemezov’s statement, searches were also carried out in Karaulov’s house. Chemezov wrote a statement because “rumors and speculation” were published on the journalist’s channel, and a number of unverified information in publications also increased. Rostec considers these publications to be slander, as well as information harmful to Chemezov’s reputation.
Karaulov himself stated that he was in the United Arab Emirates for treatment. “I had surgery in Singapore, everyone knows about it. I can’t go to the pre-trial detention center in a wheelchair. As soon as I heal, the doctors will release me, I will get up from the wheelchair and will definitely come to Moscow to appear in court. And I’m not afraid to end up in a pre-trial detention center, ”said the journalist.
According to the TV presenter, he learned about the new libel case from the media. “That is, neither I nor my lawyer have seen Mikhalkov’s statement yet,” said Karaulov. He refused public accusations against the master, emphasizing that he was responsible for his every word.
