Buckwheat production increased by a third last year, breaking the mark of 1 million tons (up to 1.22 million tons), Rossiyskaya Gazeta writes, citing Rosstat data.
In 2021, 919 thousand tons of buckwheat were harvested in the country, and 786 thousand tons in 2019.
Producer prices have been steadily falling over the past 11 months. Since March 2022, they have more than halved – from 49.8 thousand to 22.1 thousand rubles per ton. By the end of January 2023, buckwheat was 23.2% cheaper than in January 2022.
The production of buckwheat in January 2023 compared to January 2022 increased by 6.8%. Producer prices for buckwheat since March last year have fallen by almost 1.7 times – from 77.7 thousand to 45.9 thousand rubles per ton of cereals. In January 2023, buckwheat from producers cost almost 35% cheaper than in January 2022.
