Some people manage to survive on only croissants or ketchup. Here are the real stories
No matter how scary it is to realize, every person at some point can find himself in an extreme situation. For example, while driving to another city, the car may stall on a road that is rarely driven by cars. Or a person can go into the forest and get lost among the countless trees. Unfortunately, in most of these situations, people die from cold, dehydration and starvation. But there are times when people manage to get drinking water and food – often you have to use something that is usually not suitable for constant nutrition as food. As part of this article, we invite you to read stories when people got into extreme situations and miraculously survived by eating the same food for a long time. These stories perfectly show that even from the most difficult situations you can find a way out.
Man survives by eating croissants
In early March 2023, a lot of snow fell in California – the height of snowdrifts in some places exceeded 5 meters. Due to the heavy snowfall, people were trapped in their homes, because the snowdrifts blocked the doors and windows. So that no one died of hunger, rescuers had to deliver food using helicopters. At the same time, snow removal machines worked day and night to clear the roads.

Effects of snowfall in California, 2023
Particularly hard during a record snowfall in California had an 81-year-old man, Jerry Jura, who was on his way to Nevada in bad weather. The road was supposed to take no more than three hours, but the driver was trapped in the snow and stuck in his car for a whole week. According to Yahoo News, he had only croissants with him – he ate them for seven days, and used snow as a source of water.

The man’s relatives began to look for him almost immediately after the disappearance – it was clear that he had disappeared due to snowfall. His location was found thanks to the signal of the smartphone. After clearing the snow, the man was removed from the car and taken by helicopter to the hospital. Everything was fine with him, so he was released on the same day.

This news was widely covered in the media, but in general, eating only croissants is not unusual. 100 grams of these buns contain about 400 calories, 8 grams of protein, 20 grams of fat and over 40 grams of carbohydrates. With such a diet, a man could well live for a long time.

Man survived in the tropics by eating worms
In 2023, a much more interesting case of survival occurred. At the end of January, 30-year-old Jonathan Acosta went hunting with four friends in the Amazon forests. At a certain point, he fell behind the group and got lost – his friends came home, but he was never there. The family reported the missing relative to the police and a search was launched.

While they were looking for him, young Jonathan Acosta walked about 40 kilometers in search of people. At one point, he realized that for a long time he did not understand where he was and was walking in circles. Adding to the disorientation, while trying to find his way out of the rainforest, the man sprained his ankle. In order not to die of hunger, he ate worms and insects, and he also managed to find wild fruits similar to papaya. To quench his thirst, rainwater, which he collected in sneakers, helped him.

Jonathan Acosta told reporters he would never hunt again
In the wild, the man stayed for a whole month – on the afternoon of February 25, he came across a search group. During this time, he threw off 16 kilograms and suffered severely from dehydration. Needless to say, he needed urgent medical attention. However, he survived, and worms and rainwater helped him a lot.

Man survives at sea on ketchup and spices
In December 2022, a powerful storm swept Elvis’ man François into the Caribbean while he was repairing a small sailboat. He was not a professional sailor, so he could not take a swimming facility under his control. He did not have food with him, but on the ship he found a bottle of ketchup and bouillon cubes with seasonings. According to him, in order to somehow satisfy his hunger, he mixed them with rainwater and ate.

The man was found only after 24 days at sea. At first, he could not manage to attract the attention of ships sailing nearby – even fire signals did not help him. But one day he was able to carve the word “Help” on the roof of the sailboat and dedicated it with a mirror to a plane flying nearby. The pilots told about what they saw to the rescuers and a rescue ship sailed for the man.

Fortunately, Elvis Francois’s health turned out to be all right.
After this case was reported in the media, the ketchup manufacturer announced its intention to give the man a new vessel. Indeed, it turned out to be a very good advertisement, albeit extremely extreme …
