A guaranteed supply of seeds needs to be created in the Rostov region, said the governor of the region, Vasily Golubev, on the air of the Don 24 TV channel.
“One of the tasks that needs to be addressed is the continuation of work on import substitution of seeds. We need to create a guaranteed supply of them and understand that they are always there,” Golubev said.
He noted that institutes and seed farms will work for this.
“First of all, this is relevant for the seeds of row crops,” the governor emphasized.
As reported, in 2023 the Rostov region plans to plant at least 2,000 hectares of seed plots for import substitution of row crop seeds. This will bring the production of own seeds of corn to 18% of the demand, sunflower – 31%.
It was also reported that the region is increasing the production of seeds of domestic selection. So, in 2022, the area of seed plots under corn was doubled, and 4 times under sunflower.
