A new criminal case has been opened against journalist Andrei Karaulov for slandering director Nikita Mikhalkov. This was reported by a TASS source in law enforcement agencies.
The trial began due to the fact that the journalist accused the director of deforestation in the Nizhny Novgorod region, the source said. He added that almost 20 addresses associated with the journalist were searched. Karaulov himself said in February that he was in Dubai.

Karaulov is a defendant in a libel case against the head of Rostec, Sergei Chemezov. On November 3, 2022, the journalist’s house was searched. Initially, he was a witness in the case, the further status of the journalist in the case is unknown.
Rostec said that Karaulov’s channel had published “rumors and conjectures divorced from reality.” These materials harmed Chemezov’s reputation, in connection with which the corporation decided to turn to the investigation.
