The commissioning of a new domestic air terminal will increase the capacity of Murmansk International Airport from 200 to 400 passengers per hour at the first stage of the project and up to 800 at the second stage. Such calculations with a forecast for 2029 and 2034 are given in the project documentation. A positive conclusion of the Glavgosexpertiza of Russia was issued for the first stage of the terminal construction.
The construction of an airfield near Murmansk, 4 km from the village of Murmashi, began in 1971. The terminal building was commissioned in 1977. Today, a large-scale reconstruction continues at the airport named after Nicholas II, one of the stages of which will be the construction of a new terminal building with a total area of over 7 thousand square meters. meters.
“The comprehensive plan for the development of Murmansk Airport takes into account the forecast growth in passenger traffic to 1,004,292 people by 2034, with an increase in the capacity of the new air terminal complex to 600 passengers per hour,” said Larisa Bondar, chief expert of the project.
At the first stage of construction, it is planned to erect a new air terminal complex of domestic air lines with a capacity of 400 passengers per hour. “Taking into account the sector of the existing domestic terminal with a capacity of 200 passengers per hour, the new terminal building will meet the needs of the airport according to the forecast indicators for 2029,” said Larisa Bondar.
The second phase of construction is to expand the new terminal building to provide a combined capacity of 800 passengers per hour on domestic routes, which is projected to meet the airport’s needs for 2034.
The projected complex of the passenger terminal at Murmansk airport also includes the placement of an apron with an area of 1491 sq. meters.
