Barnaul is located in the south of Western Siberia, 230 km from Novosibirsk and almost 3,000 km in a straight line from Moscow. This is the administrative center of the Altai Territory (not to be confused with the Altai Republic). The city arose after the construction of a copper and silver smelter in 1730. Until the middle of the 19th century, about 90% of all silver in Russia was smelted here. There are many attractions in Barnaul – ancient architecture, Nagorny Park, monuments, temples.
