The couple will now officially be known as Sir Brian May and Lady May
King Charles III of Great Britain knighted the co-founder and guitarist of the rock band Queen Brian May. It is reported by CBS News.
The musician received the title of Knight Bachelor. The title means that Mei is not part of the organized orders of chivalry in the United Kingdom. As a rule, such a title is awarded to civilians – in particular, people from the field of art.
The ceremony was also attended by the musician’s wife, actress Anita Dobson. The couple will now officially be known as Sir Brian May and Lady May.
Queen guitarist Brian May honored with knighthood
At the end of December 2022, it became known that the musician was awarded the title. The website of the UK government states that in this way the authorities celebrate May’s musical activities and work to protect wildlife. The guitarist is the founder of the Save Me Foundation to protect animals from cruelty and fight the hunting law.
Previously, other members of the group were awarded high awards. Queen co-founder Roger Taylor became an MBE following bassist Brian May. However, Mei did not receive the higher rank that qualifies for a knighthood.
