This was found out by American scientists from the Karolinska Institute, who studied the data of over 650,000 people. Data from 53,000 respondents showed that sleeping less than five hours a night led to a higher risk of peripheral arterial disease (PAD). Experts noted that over 200 million people in the world suffer from PAD. With this disease, blood clots clog the arteries in the legs. And thrombosis provokes strokes and heart attacks.
The researchers noted that the relationship between thrombosis and sleep was bidirectional: lack of sleep increased the likelihood of developing PAD, and the presence of thrombosis increased the risk of sleep deprivation. Sleep deprivation has also been linked to higher risks of coronary heart disease.
However, these conclusions were made only after one experiment. Therefore, experts plan to conduct additional studies. They believe that a healthy lifestyle and physical activity can reduce the risk of developing peripheral arterial disease.
The researchers concluded that physical activity and a healthy lifestyle in general can reduce the risk of developing PAD. And patients with this disease may need to take painkillers to restore the quality of sleep.
Doctors always advise you to get enough sleep and scare the consequences of lack of sleep. But what if you take it now and start sleeping for 7-8 hours at night until the end of your days? As American scientists have previously found out, healthy sleep really prolongs life, and men in this regard are more fortunate than women.
