Russian farmers who will connect to the dairy product labeling system from December 1, 2023 should prepare in advance for the new rules. This was told by the Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Ekaterina Priezzheva during a meeting at the site of the Federation Council, dedicated to measures to support the dairy industry with the introduction of digital labeling.
“I would like to draw your attention to the fact that there is very little time left before the entry into force of the requirements for mandatory labeling of dairy products by peasant (farmer) households and agricultural production cooperatives, so I urge you to prepare for the entry into force of the requirements in advance,” she stressed.
According to the Deputy Head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, the operator of the labeling system in Russia, the Center for the Development of Advanced Technologies (TsRPT), has developed inexpensive boxed solutions for farmers that allow them to start labeling in a short time, and they have been successfully tested by a number of small producers. In addition, the CRPT has developed a mechanism to support peasant farms and agricultural production cooperatives and will reimburse 50% of farmers’ costs for labeling equipment.
Labeling of dairy products began in Russia on June 1, 2021 in the category of cheeses and ice cream, from September 1, 2021, dairy products with a shelf life of more than 40 days are subject to labeling, and from December 1, 2021 – with a shelf life of 40 days or less. The marking also applies to medicines, water, tobacco, shoes, light industry goods, fur coats, perfumes, tires and cameras. From April 1, 2023, the phased introduction of beer labeling will begin. In addition, an experiment on the labeling of medical devices is currently underway.
