Andrey Kazakov, Executive Director of the National Fruit and Vegetable Union, will talk about the situation on the greenhouse vegetable market as part of the business program of the All-Russian Agricultural Forum “Greenhouse Industry of Russia – 2023”.
The event was organized by the federal agricultural publication “Journal Agribusiness”, with the support of: Association “Greenhouses of Russia”, Skolkovo Foundation, National Fruit and Vegetable Union. The forum will take place on April 27-28, 2023 in Sochi.
In the report, Andrey Kazakov will show the dynamics of vegetable production in 2022 in comparison with the results obtained in 2021. Thus, the greenhouse vegetable industry broke another harvest record in 2022, 1.5 million tons of vegetables were harvested, which is 7% higher compared to 2021. Since 2015, the industry has been steadily gaining momentum in the production of greenhouse vegetables from year to year, and there has been a positive trend in crop growth in this segment.
Due to the positive growth dynamics of the gross harvest of greenhouse vegetables (cucumbers and tomatoes), import dependence is gradually decreasing. In 2022, imports of greenhouse vegetables decreased by 12.9% compared to 2021, which amounted to 412.7 thousand tons of vegetables against 473.9 thousand tons in 2021. Separately, for cucumbers – a decrease by 11.5%, for tomatoes – by 13.1%. Accordingly, in monetary terms, in 2022, vegetables were imported in the amount of $497.6 million, which is 6.4% lower compared to 2021 ($531.6 million).
Leading countries in the structure of imports of greenhouse vegetables (tomato, cucumber): Turkey, Belarus, China, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan.
The dynamics of prices for greenhouse vegetables is characterized by a pronounced cyclicality associated with seasonality. Thus, traditionally high prices for greenhouse vegetables are observed from the end of late autumn to early spring. This is due to the fact that during this period the number of proposals on the market of greenhouse vegetables is reduced and there is an increase in imports.
This topic will be discussed in detail in the 1st session of the Russian Greenhouse Industry 2023 Forum.
Also, at the event we will talk about measures to support innovative projects in greenhouses; raise the issue of energy prices: compensation and subsidies; we will talk about ways and opportunities to reduce the cost of greenhouse products; development of greenhouse projects in the current market conditions; highlight the issues of logistics; trading interaction; we will condemn the high cost of greenhouse products and the decline in real incomes of the population: how to find a middle ground and other topics.
Among the visitors of the event will be representatives of greenhouse complexes and peasant farms, companies producing fertilizers and special equipment for greenhouses, representing innovative energy-saving technologies for the production of vegetables in protected ground, agricultural holdings and seed companies, companies producing equipment for irrigation, heat supply, microclimate, representatives of retail chains , representatives of state authorities and others.
