Studies show that the quality of the mattress affects the quality of sleep. If you sleep on too old, then even a full eight-hour sleep may not save. Elena Korchagova, commercial director of Askona manufacturing company, told about how often to change a mattress and how to choose a new one.
When to change the mattress
Korchagova advised to change the mattress as soon as it becomes uncomfortable to sleep on it. Take a closer look at the cover – if you see that it is deformed, then you should think about a new one. And you also need to get a new mattress if your physical condition began to change after sleep. For example, you slept for 8 hours, but at the same time you still began to wake up “broken” and tired.
Usually mattresses are changed every 6 years, Korchagova noted in an interview with Gazeta.ru. The shelf life depends on the technical characteristics and correct use. But in general, manufacturers themselves indicate the service life for each specific model.
How to choose a new mattress
According to the commercial director of Askona, when choosing a mattress, you should first of all focus on:
- your height and weight;
- firmness preferences – hard, medium or soft;
- type – spring or springless.
“It is not recommended to jump, walk on mattresses, and also some models need to be turned over every 6 months,” the expert advised.
What else can help you sleep well?
One mattress will not provide a normal sleep. To fully sleep, you need to create the right atmosphere. And for this, the bedroom will need the right curtains, humidified air and a suitable pillow.
Somnologist, Candidate of Medical Sciences Sofia Cherkasova recommended choosing orthopedic mattresses and pillows, especially if there are problems with the spine. They evenly distribute the pressure that the body exerts on them, so it is comfortable to lie on them, blood circulation is not disturbed.
As for the curtains, they should completely block access to the room to the sun’s rays. By the way, the curtains also partially absorb the noise from the street, which ordinary curtains cannot. You can buy a light-insulating screen as an alternative, the specialist noted.
