The Institute of Agricultural Genetics and Breeding will be created on the basis of the Stavropol State Agrarian University (SSAU). Its work will strengthen food security, develop the agro-industrial complex of the region and train qualified personnel for work in the industry, the press service of Innopraktika reported.
The Institute will be established by the Stavropol State Agrarian University together with the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT) and the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry (IBCh) of the Russian Academy of Sciences with the participation of Innopraktika.
“Thanks to the Priority 2030 federal program and partnership with Innopraktika, our agricultural producers have access to agricultural technologies of a fundamentally new, higher level. Another step along this path is the decision to create the Institute of Agricultural Genetics and Breeding on the basis of SSAU. The project, which will be implemented jointly with the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology and the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry, will be an important step towards strengthening food security, developing competencies in the regional agro-industrial complex, and providing the regional economy with modern scientific developments and qualified, competitive personnel. Personnel. Economics” words of the Governor of Stavropol Vladimir Vladimirov.
It is explained that now genetic and breeding technologies are the main tool to ensure the efficiency of the industry and reduce the impact of climate on agriculture. “For Russia, as one of the world’s largest food suppliers, the issues of its own independent genetics are of priority, especially in the context of limited supplies of imported technologies and seed. One of the obstacles to the development of this industry is the lack of personnel capable of creating new solutions and technologies. The creation of the Institute of Agrarian Genetics and Breeding on the basis of one of the leading agricultural universities in the country – Stavropol State Agrarian University – will solve this problem,” the press service of Innopraktika quotes Natalia Popova, First Deputy General Director of the company.
According to the rector of SSAU Vladimir Sitnikov, the Agrarian University of the region was among the first universities in Russia to join the work on the creation of breeding and genetic research centers in nursery and dairy farming. “The first in Russia Institute of Agricultural Genetics and Breeding will allow not only to train specialists unique for Russia at the master’s and postgraduate level, but also to conduct relevant research and create technologies, promptly responding to business requests,” he said in a message.
