As part of a retrospective of the legendary director of the French New Wave era

The film distribution company Russian World Vision is releasing three films by French New Wave director Francois Truffaut. The 400 Blows, Jules and Jim and Tender Skin are the classic early Truffaut films that made him a star.
Truffaut’s debut film “400 Blows” captivated viewers and critics around the world. The film won the Cannes Film Festival for Best Director and was nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay.
According to the plot, a difficult teenager, twelve-year-old Antoine Doinel and his friend attend school less and less and run away from home. The hero’s mother is busy with her personal life, and she has neither the time nor the desire to delve into her son’s problems. The stepfather is a man of weak character, has no influence on either his wife or his son. The teacher only punishes the boy.
Truffaut encouraged the improvisation of young non-professional actors, and in terms of the style of shooting, the film became a manifesto of the “camera-pen” technique, implying freedom from the restrictions imposed by studio stages and a static movie camera. The picture was shot in 46 days, and subsequently Truffaut will make it a rule to shoot films in such a “lightning storm”.
After the screening, there will be a discussion of the painting with Evgeny Zharinov.
