The Saratov Regional Center of Expertise in Construction reviewed the project documentation and the results of engineering surveys for the preservation of the cultural heritage site “Gringoff Mansion with Gates”. The regional expert organization that issued a positive opinion uses the Unified Digital Expertise Platform.
The three-story mansion at 26 Shevchenko Street is one of the most famous monuments of Art Nouveau architecture of the early 20th century in Saratov. The building was built in 1913-1914 according to the design of the architect Vladimir Karpenko and originally belonged to the Technical Office “Br. Gringoff.”
The brothers Ivan and Stanislav Gringof were known far beyond the borders of the Saratov province as successful engineers who built many buildings, bridges and other structures. It is the company “Br. Gringoff acted as a contractor for the construction of such facilities as the building of the Main Post Office and the Covered Market in Saratov. The Gringof brothers also participated in the construction of the buildings of the Ryazan-Ural Railway Administration, the Volsky cement plant and other large industrial and civil facilities. In addition, the Gringoffs were engaged in the construction of roads and bridges. For example, in 1910, in Chuvashia, according to their project, a reinforced concrete bridge was erected across the Bolshoy Tsivil River, the right tributary of the Volga, crossing the path from Moscow to Kazan. The construction of the bridge made it possible to solve the problem of sustainable transport communication in this direction, since the wooden crossing over the Bolshoy Tsivil was out of order for a long time during spring floods.
For their office in Saratov, the Gringoff brothers rented premises in different parts of the city. And only in 1913 they became the owners of the site, where the three-story mansion was built by the architect Vladimir Karpenko. After the revolution of 1917, various government services were alternately housed in the building. Since 1968, its premises have been occupied by the Central Children’s Music School. And in 1986, by decision of the Saratov Regional Council of People’s Deputies, the former Gringof Brothers House was included in the regional list of historical and cultural monuments protected by the state.
The project documentation, which was approved by the Saratov Region Expertise, provides for restoration work to preserve the cultural heritage site.*
